Arc + Void was founded in the beginning of 2025 after winning the commission to design an ultra-luxury bespoke hotel to rival the best Johannesburg & South Africa has to offer.
The studio resides on site & practices an immersive design methodology, putting us in constant touch with the context of our work. The studio is young & is quickly gathering new clients of the highest standard – see below what we have on the drawing board so far.

Arc + Void embodies an architectural philosophy rooted in the idea of dichotomy & balance, reflecting the fundamental principles that govern both our natural environment & the human experience.

Architecture
The fields of architecture and interior design share significant overlapping responsibilities
& design considerations. We find projects are always better finished where these two disciplines are employed by the same firm,
or by one of our partners who we include in the design process from the very beginning, affording a wholistic design approach
where every detail, big & small is
considered across a project.
Interior
We are proficient in 3 modelling & rendering,
a service we offer as part of any project
we are appointed to do.
We specialize in 3 modelling software
such as Revit, Sketchup, Rhino & Grasshopper, and develop our rendering in Twin motion, Lumion & D5Render, the combination of which Depends on the project and its needs.
Every render then undergoes a post-production process using Adobe Photoshop among others.

Grant Woodward
Grant has a master’s in architecture, graduating from the University of JHB in 2013. He also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration in 2020 finishing cum laude.
Over the last 10 years Grant has been working as a project architect across Africa, travelling frequently to beautiful
& remote locations in the pursuit & completion of custom designed bespoke private bush lodges, island resorts & private homes. Grant is passionate about design & loves the challenge of producing considered & innovate architecture.

Michelle Smith
Michelle is a young, Professional Architect driven to creatively untangle & resolve buildings from head to toe across multiple disciplines. She has lead architectural projects in the educational sphere, exploring the intricate connection between architecture & education.
Her projects have gone on to win local prizes & garnered international attention, winning an award at the World Architecture Festival in 2025. Michelle is shifting focus to luxury developments & product design in collaboration with
Arc + Void and Kilnhouse Design Studio. This has enabled skill development across scales, from ceramic vessels & furniture to boutique hotel design.
Her multidisciplinary approach, & keen eye, assist in transforming renders to reality & obstacles to opportunities.

After completing a bachelor’s in architecture at Wits, Maeve took 18 months to serve communities in San Diego & Hawaii. She enjoys sewing & playing the piano. She loves to solve problems in any form & learn from
any opportunity. She believes in the power of architecture to transform the lives of their users & how it can be a positive force in the world.

James is an engaged young designer having sharpened his teeth on luxury residential projects during his practical years, before furthering his studies.
He graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2026, finishing cum laude, placing third in the prestigious Wits Corobrik awards & is currently pursuing his professional registration
at Arc + Void.
As a skilled ceramicist & woodworker,
he has an in depth understanding of
the worlds of art & design lending
a unique view to projects, from concept
to realisation, paying special attention
to materiality & detailing.
